Description
Carom seeds (ajwain) the flavour of ajwain is reminiscent of thyme, oregano, anise, and cumin, often leaving a numbing sensation on the tongue. In Indian cuisine, they are used sparingly to flavour dishes such as dals, curries, breads (like parathas and naans), and snacks, often roasted or fried in oil or ghee to release their aroma. They are also valued for their digestive benefits and are sometimes consumed as a home remedy for indigestion and bloating. Their strong flavour enhances savoury dishes and is a distinctive component in Indian spice blends and tadkas (tempering).
